My Impressions
A friend of mine first got me interested in the idea that an SLR can be used for fun and wasn’t the domain of the purely professional. He has a 40D – nice bit of kit – but I couldn’t justify the extra expsense (at time of writing its approx £300 more for the body only). I knew I wanted a Canon as the lenses are widely available and older ones can be picked up second hand for a reasonable discount, it was also a good idea as I ‘borrow’ my mates lenses as well!
The 450D was the one I settled on as it has the best range of features for the price. I bought the package that contains a starter everyday lense to get me going – more on the lense in a moment.
The body is light and feels robust, the overall feel of the build quality is good – not toy like at all. Menus are clear, configurable and detailed. There are a plenty of options to keep me going for ages before I grow out of it.
