This is the ‘kit lens’ that came with my 450D. It has a reasonable amount of zoom, but this is what my mate refers to as an ‘everyday’ lens – meaning it cover most shot but nothing specialised.
At 18mm (28mm equivalent) the wide angle makes it great for landscapes, and at the other end at 55mm (88mm equivalent) the image stabilisation (IS) is a big help and unexpected on a lens of this price.
If I’m honest the lense is cheap. This mainly apparent from the all plastic construction, which while light, also looks like it will be prone to long term damage from everyday use.
The image quality is no that great either, being a little soft until about f/8, but even then the corner are still considerable worse than the centre.
